Lakshmana Temple is a famous ancient temple located on the banks of the river Ganga in Rishikesh. The temple is famous for its ancient sculptures and paintings on the temple walls and is believed to be where Lord Rama’s younger brother Lakshmana meditated for spiritual enlightenment. They both built a jute bridge known as The Lakshmana Jhula and crossed the river Ganga through that bridge.
1. It is said that after Ravana was killed. Lord Rama and Lakshmana bathed here to bathe in river Ganga for washing away their sins.
2. Inside the temple are the carved structures that you can see as similar to the paintings. The architecture and design of the temple will make you travel back into pristine times.
Lakshmana Temple is located near Lakshmana Jhula Road in Tapovan, Rishikesh. You can take a sharing auto from the Rishikesh bus stand to visit Lakshmana Temple. If you want to reach by train, the nearest railway station to the temple is Rishikesh Railway Station (6 km), and if you want to travel by aeroplane, you can land at Jolly Grant Airport, which is 23 km in Dehradun. One can also visit this place by train Haridwar is the nearest railhead.
